Breakfast seminar on industry's use of green carbon atoms

How will the West Swedish industry use the green carbon atoms? Thursday is the last chance to register for the upcoming seminar with researchers within Mistra Carbon Exit.

November 21st offers an interesting breakfast seminar with participation from researchers in Mistra Carbon Exit: Filip Johnsson and Ida Karlsson. The day’s topic:

How will the West Swedish industry use the green carbon atoms?

Western Swedish industry is facing a significant transition to climate-neutral value chains.  Come and listen to the latest research on material flows and minimised carbon footprint in the industry followed by a panel discussion with some of West Sweden's primary industry, energy and materials players.

There are many societal opinions on what a sustainable path is. We agree that fossil fuels should go, but how should we manage the green carbon atoms wisely, in different contexts and with what energy? The goal is to create circular systems, but which material flows and technologies will last? These are some of the many pressing issues discussed at this seminar.

The seminar is organised in cooperation with Climate 2030 - Västra Götaland ställer om.

Where? November  21st 8.30-12.00

Var: Chalmerska Huset, Södra Hamngatan 11 (Lokal: Pelarsalen)

Hoppet, fossil-free building construction, Maria Perzon (Bengt Dahlgren) and Hanna Ljungstedt (City of Gothenburg)

Maria Perzon and Hanna Ljungstedt will present the project Hoppet (‘hope’ or ‘leap’). Hoppet, Sweden’s first modern ‘fossil-free’ construction project, is an initiative with the purpose of creating better conditions for fossil-free constructions. The first milestone is to build a preschool, constructed as far as possible with fossil-free material and procedures. From resource extraction to construction site and operation.

A sustainable future for the European cement and concrete industry, Guillaume Habert, Prof. Dr. ETH Zurich

Professor Guillaume Habert will present some of the key findings from a recent study that investigates the practices and technologies that can be implemented to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from the cement and concrete sector in Europe by 2050. The report from the study "A sustainable future for the European cement and concrete industry – Technology assessment for full decarbonisation of the industry by 2050" was released in october 2018 and can be downloaded here https://europeanclimate.org/a-sustainable-future-for-the-european-cement-and-concrete-industry-technology-assessment-for-full-decarbonisation-of-the-industry-by-2050/

The study was conducted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETHZ), Zürich, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne and commissioned by the European Climate Foundation.

Climate procurement requirements - Findings from Kontrollstation 2018 och Impres, Stefan Uppenberg (WSP)

Stefan Uppenberg (WSP) and his colleagues have in two recent projects (Kontrollstation 2018 (Trafikverket, Sweden)  and Impres (e.g. UK, US and Australia)) explored how climate procurement requirements have been and can be used to facilitate the low-carbon transition in the construction sector. Final reports from both projects are due in January so Stefan will use this opportunity to present and discuss some of the key finding.

Case Study Meeting 24th October, Stockholm: Buildings and Transportation infrastructure

This is the first of a series of supply chain workshops where clients, consultants, contractors and material suppliers involved in the supply chain of buildings and infrastructure together will explore how innovative production practices, material choices, business models and policies can contribute to significantly reduce the climate impact of building construction processes. The results will serve as basis for finding efficient ways to achieve the transformative changes required to meet the Swedish goal of net zero emission by Year 2045.

Workshop 20th October, Berlin: "Policies to stimulate climate friendly innovation in the materials sector"

The Mistra Carbon Exit consortium includes a significant participation of stakeholders from industry, authorities and civil society which will actively contribute to the research. The program provides a platform for dialogue and exchange between industry, authorities and academia.

  • Part 1: How can public policy makers decide on what technologies/projects to support?
  • Part 2: How to design public financial support to stimulate private innovation investments that contribute to transformation?

The workshop is organized by DIW supported by Mistra Carbon Exit. More information on DIWs website. http://climatestrategies.org/news-types/events/
